The Brothers Grimm, Jacob (1785–1863) and Wilhelm Grimm(1786–1859), were German academics, linguists, cultural researchers, and authors who together collected folklore. They are among the most well-known storytellers of European folk tales, and their work popularized such stories as "Cinderella", "The Frog Prince", "Hansel and Gretel", "Rapunzel", "Rumpelstiltskin", and "Snow White" . Their first collection of folk tales,Children's and Household Tales, was published in 1812.

  荒誕不經的故事Folklore (or lore) consists of legends, music, oral history, proverbs, jokes,popular beliefs, fairy tales, stories, tall tales, and customs that are the traditions of a culture, subculture, or group. It is also the set of practices through which those expressive genres are shared.

Aspects of popular piety, historical folklore, and historical superstitions are some of the themes explored.
